Homeschooling plans

We have completely finished the school year. Our vacation was a lovely way to wrap up the year! Too bad that can’t happen every year.

I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what to do for next year and what will work for us with a new baby joining our family early August.

After much thought and prayer I’ve decided to go back to HOD for next year. I really enjoyed this year and just LOVED using Beautiful Feet for history. I also loved Explode the Code for Erin and Maygen and wish we had found it sooner.

Next year Erin will be using Bigger Hearts for His Glory.

She will use their suggested history, bible, poetry, spelling, art and science. I’m also purchasing the extension package for history as she just loves to read and they will give her a wonderful amount of great books to read for next year.  For math she’ll continue with Singapore 2A and 2B for now. I considered using Bob Jones 3 for her but since the Bigger guide has suggested daily activities written for Singapore I’m going to keep with it for next year.  For handwriting she’ll be starting to learn cursive with Cheerful Cursive although she’s been learning already without any curriculum by just asking to learn how to write the letters and practicing by herself. For English we’ll be using Abeka Language 3 after considering Rod and Staff and talking to a dear friend about the 2 programs Abeka just seems to be the better fit. We’re going to continue with Explode the Code b/c the workbooks have been wonderful and dearly loved. Along with the spelling and dictation we will probably continue to use Apples and Pears Spelling as spelling is Erin’s most challenging subject.

Maygen and Ada will also use HOD but will use Little Hearts for His Glory.

They will combine wonderfully into this guide! They will both use the suggested Bible, history, science, art, and story time. Both of the girls will use The Reading Lesson. Ada will start from the beginning and Maygen will pick up where she left off. I can’t say enough good things about this phonics instruction. We LOVE it. I’ve tried a few other phonics programs but always come back to this one. It’s a no fuss, easy, simple, yet effective way to teach reading. For handwriting Ada will continue with A Reason for Handwriting K and Maygen will use A Reason for Handwriting A. For math  Maygen will use Bob Jones Math 1 and Ada will use Singapore Earlybird.

So that’s it in a nutshell! Things may change and get added or removed as time goes on but for now I think we have our plan pretty well nailed down.

Just an FYI: I’m selling all of my Beautiful Feet material if anyone is interested.
